In Brendan Rodgers first six months in charge as Celtic manager, the Irishman has had the opportunity to observe the foundation left by Ronny Deila.
Since Rodgers has taken charge at Celtic Park, he has strengthened his squad with signings such as, Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair. These signings have proved very effective and helped catapult the Hoops into the Champions League group stage for the first time in three years.
Rodgers is also on track to be the first Celtic manager since Martin O’Neill to deliver the treble to Celtic Park, after winning the League Cup in November and is 14 points clear at the summit of the league table. Celtic have one game in hand over their nearest challengers Rangers; and the newly promoted side will host Rodgers’ side in just over a week.
Since Rodgers arrived at Celtic Park, he has not showed any intention of debuting any Celtic Academy players. The Hoops are striding further and further away from their Premiership opponents on points difference. Rodgers now knows that the time has come to rotate his squad with the same intention of comfortably gathering three points each game.
Rodgers began his youth experimentation in the 1-0 Glasgow derby win over Partick Thistle on Tuesday night, as he handed a debut to Celtic Academy player Calvin Miller.  The Hoops boss moulded the Scotland Under-19 international into the left-back role where he played for the youth team in recent games, and starred before being substituted on the 63rd minute.
Prior to the game, Rodgers prioritised bringing youth players from the academy to the first-team. Over the course of the Christmas period and the remainder of the season, Celtic supporters will be interested to see if Rodgers hands debuts to any other academy players.
As the January transfer window fast approaches, Rodgers has previously said he wants to bed signings into the team so they are established in the squad before the Champions League qualifiers come around next July. Rodgers has reportedly turned down the chance to sign Scottish international Robert Snodgrass after he rejected a contract offer from Hull City in an attempt to play for his boyhood club. New additions to the squad, however, are dependent on the transfer budget Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell offers the manager for this window.
After Rodgers moulded the winger/striker Calvin Miller into the left-back role, he could be preparing for a quiet window int he event his targets aren’t available and will exploit his youth options in positions needing attention.
The introduction of Calvin Miller as a left-back to the first-team squad also suggests that Emilio Izaguirre’s time at Celtic is nearly up. The Honduran international was rumoured to leave Celtic Park in the summer for the MLS, however, to the Hoops fans delight, he decided to remain at the club for another season.
Rodgers has handed Izaguirre several first-team starts this season, however, this has only been as a result of favoured left-back Kieran Tierney being injured with serious ankle ligament damage. Rodgers clearly feels that he needs more cover for the left-back position and the prospect of Izaguirre departing Celtic in the near future seems to be increasingly likely.
