Celtic in world football’s top 20 highest attendances

Celtic Park has hosted one of the world’s top 20 highest-attended football matches of this season, according to a list compiled by the Daily Star.

The Hoops come in at 16th place on the list, ahead of Premier League side West Ham United, Bundesliga outfits Hamburg and Stuttgart, and Portuguese heavyweights Benfica.

A massive 59,259 people watched on as Celtic drew 2-2 with Hibernian at the end of last month, which earned the Glasgow side their berth in the top 20.

Borussia Dortmund came top of the pile with a massive 81,360 spectators at the Westfalenstadion, whilst Tottenham Hotspur came second after breaking Premier League attendance records as 80,827 fans watched their game against Liverpool at Wembley.

Third place went to Serie A side Inter Milan, who hosted 78,238 people at the San Siro, whilst Manchester United were expectedly up amongst the top tier with 75,118 people at Old Trafford.

The only real surprise is that neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid made the top five, with that spot being shared between Bayern Munich and South African side Kaizer Chiefs, with attendances of 75,000.

Closest to Celtic were Arsenal, who narrowly pipped the Hoops to 15th place with 59,378 people at the Emirates.
