It was another disappointing night away in Europe for Celtic as they were brushed aside by RB Leipzig as the Bundesliga side cruised with little worry to three points after goals from Cunha and Bruma in the first half.
Despite the scoreline, it was a decent start for Celtic who kept things simple at the back and looked dangerous on the break with the Hosts struggling to create many chances on the whole.
Celtic’s best attacking moment came seven minutes in after Odsonne Edouard was fed well by his attacking partner Lewis Morgan but scuffed his shot just wide of the post on seven minutes.
Shots from Morgan and Oliver Ntcham flew wide of the mark as Celtic remained well in the game.
However after 30 minutes, the whole tone of the game changed, a cross into the box was missed by Eboue Kouassi and subsequently Dedryck Boyata allowing Leipzig’s Cunha an easy chance to lash the ball past a helpless Craig Gordon.
Soon enough it was 2-0. Cristian Gamboa missed the ball with a slide tackle down the Germans’ left side allowing full-back Marcelo Saracchi to whip a low ball in. A couple of deflections and a bit of luck saw it sit up nicely for Bruma who fired home.
Things didn’t improve after the break with Konrad Laimer driving through the Celtic midfield as if they were back in Glasgow but the Austrian just skimmed the post with his finish.
Jean Kevin Augustin was next to threaten, after Dedryck Boyata’s mishit pass, the ball was rolled into the striker whose shot bounced off the post via a wonderful fingertip save from Gordon.
Ntcham came close late on as RB Leipzig slipped into cruise control with Celtic lacking any real energy going forward.
The thing that will irk Brendan Rodgers the most is that his side weren’t outclassed tonight but two poor goals followed by a lacklustre second half is what let them down.
Here’s how we rated the players after tonight’s defeat.
