Celtic centre-back Mikael Lustig is considered an injury doubt for next weekend’s huge Glasgow derby against Rangers at Parkhead.
The Sweden international was forced off after just 24 minutes during his nation’s opening Euro 2020 qualifier last night, a 2-1 victory over Romania.
He sustained a knock that was severe enough to stop him from playing, so now Celtic fans will have a nervous wait to hear from the club about his availability.
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will make the short trip across town in game-week 31 of phase one in the Scottish Premiership, currently sitting 10 points behind Celtic in second.
The Hoops are guaranteed to finish phase one top of the table, but a win here for the visitors would be a big statement and increase the pressure on Neil Lennon’s men.
This blow comes after Kieran Tierney also returned early from Scotland international duty due to injury earlier in the week, while Dedryck Boyata also withdrew from the Belgium squad.
There are a few players standing by the fill in for the absentees though, however, their presences will certainly be missed if they can’t recover in time.
Candidates To Fill In For Mikael Lustig Against Rangers
The Borussia Dortmund loanee is standing by and could move in from right-back to fill in for Lustig.
Benkovic is available for selection again after injury and seems like the most likely option.
Hendry has only made four Scottish Premiership appearances this season but could step in on the big occasion here.
Neil Lennon will be hoping Boyata can recover in time to partner Kristoffer Ajer in defence.
