Lennon rules out Henry move and you can see why the club would be cautious

Neil Lennon has distanced himself and the club from reports linking them with a move to sign Rico Henry from Brentford.

As per the Daily Record, Lennon played down suggestions that both Andy Carroll and Henry could be on their way to Scotland.

We have done no business this weekend or made no real inroads. We have money to spend if needed. If we keep Kieran, it’s brilliant because we’ll be keeping a quality player.

With Kieran Tierney’s future still up in the air, is Lennon making a mistake by ruling out a move for the Championship defender or is this a risk simply not worth taking?

Henry has been highly rated for some time and looked ready to make the step up in his career after impressing with Brentford.

Unfortunately for him, he has seen his development halted by some nasty injuries, meaning his game time has been seriously restricted over the last couple of seasons.

If Henry had been a regular in the Brentford side last season and the year prior, there’s a very high chance he may have already moved on to bigger and better things, such was the promise the young defender showed after joining from Walsall.

If Celtic lose Tierney this week and it’s a big if, they need somebody who is reliable, a player who will be ready to step into the side straight away.

After making just 14 league appearances last season, Henry simply does not fit the bill and you can see why the club would consider any move a huge risk.

Henry shouldn’t be a player that Celtic discard completely. Long-term, there is a very talented defender there, but the timing would not be right for the Hoops this summer.
