Former Leeds United star Noel Whelan has urged his former club to swoop in and sign goalkeeper Fraser Forster from under the noses of Celtic if they secure promotion to the Premier League.
Yesterday, it was reported that Southampton, the club from whom Forster is currently on loan at Celtic, may have to accept a smaller fee than their original £10m asking price for the 32-year-old, due to the ongoing global crisis.
Former England international Paul Robinson has tipped Leeds to sign Joe Hart, but speaking to Football Insider, Whelan urged them to sign Forster instead.
He said:
There has been a lot of doubt over Joe Hart. He has not been playing. I am not sure that is the right move.
He then added:
I would rather take Fraser Forster than Joe Hart.

If Celtic do want to keep Forster, it’s almost certain that they’ll face some type of competition.
The former England international has been excellent since arriving at Celtic so it would be a huge shock if scouts from elsewhere aren’t showing some interest.
The ongoing uncertainty means its unlikely that Celtic will do a deal in the immediate future as they won’t have a clear indication of the financial impact that they’ll feel by the current pause in the action.
However, as and when that situation changes, Celtic, if they can afford it, should make signing Forster their top priority.
