The Daily Record understands that Neil Lennon is ‘knocking on the door’ of Atletico Madrid in an attempt to bring 20-year-old attacker Rodrigo Riquelme to Celtic.

The Spanish forward is out of contract next year and although Atletico are keen to keep their man, Riquelme is apparently looking for some first-team action.

Madrid will apparently be willing to let their youth-star out on loan, as long as he agrees a new contract with the Spanish giants, but it is unclear whether The Hoops will be interested in a loan move or if the player has any interest in signing a new deal.

Riquelme has impressed for Atletico’s UEFA Youth League team, putting in a great performance in their victory over Rangers last season, but has made just the two appearances for the first-team.

Diego Simeone apparently sees Riquelme as an exciting prospect and picked him out from the youth-team to train with the senior squad at the start of the 2019/20 season.

It will be interesting to see if Atletico are able to tie the Spanish star down to a new long-term contract, as it would indicate that Riquelme would only available as a loanee.

Mundo Deportivo report that Real Betis are also interested in the youngster, but Madrid do not want to sell him in any capacity.

With Moi Elyounoussi the only signing for Neil Lennon so far, Riquelme could be a great addition to the attack if he could be secured, but a loan deal seems like the most likely option at this moment in time.
