Celtic have been linked with a move for Preston North End defender Ben Davies in recent months.

The Hoops failed to land the 25-year-old in the recent transfer window, with reports last month suggesting Davies was likely to sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic in the New Year.

However, that looks potential pre-contract deal doesn’t look so straightforward now.

That’s because the player has reportedly set his sights on a move to the Bundesliga.

The Sun on Sunday, cited by The Boot Room, claim that both Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart are keen on the defender’s services, with the player also willing to make the switch to Germany.

The news regarding Davies’ reported destination will more than likely come as a blow to Celtic officials.

It seems as if The Hoops were ready to tie up a deal for the defender come January, and his potential arrival next summer could’ve been viewed as a perfect replacement for loanee Shane Duffy.

Do Celtic need a centre-back in January?

Yes

No

Celtic, who were open to signing another centre-back late in the transfer window, may have missed their best chance at landing Davies.

With nothing signed, there is still some hope for Celtic in their pursuit of the defender, however, right now, a move doesn’t look likely.
