Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong is attracting interest from several English sides ahead of the January window, including Premier League outfit Southampton.

It didn’t take long for the latest links to reach numerous Celtic supporters, plenty of whom have been quick to give their thoughts on the rumours.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Saints as well as a number of Championship clubs are monitoring the 19-year-old’s situation. The Hoops have reportedly held talks over extending his current Parkhead deal, but no agreement has yet been reached.

Frimpong is currently valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt after joining the Hoops from Manchester City for £342,000 last year. He has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season under Neil Lennon, who has recently fluctuated between Frimpong and Hatem Elhamed at right-back.

We shared the story on our official Read Celtic Facebook page and here is what these Hoops fans had to say to the latest rumour when we asked if the club should consider cashing in on the talented defender.

One fan said he “wouldn’t put it past” chief executive Peter Lawwell to cash in, given Celtic’s history of selling prized playing assets in recent years.

Ryan Morell: Elhamed supposedly off in January and then selling Frimpong, leaving us with no right backs for the remainder of the season? Wouldn’t put it past Lawwell tbh.

Guy Nicholson: If Southampton are sniffing about I bet Forster will be offered in part exchange

Adam Billy Keane: No. He’s a great player

James Mccann: If developed right he will be a star.

Conor Drummond: He couldn’t beat eggs never mind a player!!!

Snorre Eriksen: No way never
