Nick Hammond and Gary Penrice set to leave Celtic at end of the season

Celtic’s head of football operations Nick Hammond and recruitment chief Gary Penrice are both in line to leave the Hoops at the end of the season.

That’s according to an exclusive report from Football Insider, who claim that Hammond’s position has been under “major threat” since January, while Penrice’s job is now “hanging by a thread”.

Penrice was appointed head of recruitment back in April, however, several of last summer’s signings have struggled to make their mark at Celtic Park.

The report claims the duo are set to leave following a calamitous campaign in what will be an overhaul in the playing, management, coaching and executive staffs.

Over the last 18 months, David Turnbull is arguably the club’s only positive piece of transfer business. The likes of Albian Ajeti, Shane Duffy and Vasilis Barkas have all struggled in Glasgow, so removing Hammond and Penrice from their positions may make sense in the long run.

To us, most of the club’s off-field hierarchy work needs to be done before the summer window. Dominic McKay will come in to replace Peter Lawwell, and securing a director of football and a new manager could then give the club the best chance to attack this summer’s window.
