Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has spoken out about the Hoops’ transfer plans, and the support should be pleased with his comments.

The Hoops manager doesn’t expect the Bhoys to go on a signing spree in the rest of the transfer window, but he has admitted that there are still some areas of the squad that he would like to improve in.

“I still think there are one two areas where we need some more robustness in terms of the squad, just some quality in depth. I wouldn’t expect too many but there are still one or two areas I’m looking to strengthen knowing what’s ahead for us” he said, as reported by Football Scotland.

Those comments are very sensible, and they should please the Hoops support, as the manager recognises that even though a lot of work has been done in the transfer window already, the Hoops still need to improve the squad when possible, and that is what Celtic should always be looking to do, to strive to make the squad even better.

It was vitally important that Celtic managed to turn the loan deals of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota into permanent deals, and that is what the club did indeed do, and with the additions of Ben Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei, the Hoops have got a lot of transfer business done early.

But as the manager says, there are one or two areas of the squad which will need to be improved to cope with the challenges that the Bhoys will face in season 2022/23.

You have to think that those areas of the squad are midfield and defence. A defensive midfielder and a centre-back are needed for Celtic, especially if the team are to make any impact in the Champions League group stages.

The good news is that Postecoglou seems to be aware that Celtic need to keep improving season after season, which is why the Hoops have made big moves in the transfer market already, and the players which joined the club in January could make even more of an impact in season 2022/23, which would be good news for the Hoops.

Only time will tell who the Hoops sign before the end of the transfer window, but it seems that there won’t be that many more additions to the squad, and only a few more signings will be made. As long as those signings improve the Celtic squad, then that is something that the Celtic support will get behind as the manager aims to keep the Bhoys at the top of Scottish football.
