The ongoing 2026 World Cup tournament currently taking place, and being triple hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico, has been a welcome distraction for loyal Celtic fans who are happy to put the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership campaign behind them – despite seeing the twice returning Martin O’Neill salvage the season and lead us to a Scottish Cup and league title double.

Having appointed the legendary serial winner to take us forward in the more immediate future, having now appointed the majority of his backroom boys as he had hoped for, the make up of the first team squad is the next question to be answered. We have not had that and even the coaching staff appointment was a dragged out and delayed affair, which does not raise hopes in the way anyone would have wanted, and with the non-international players now back at the training ground, we are one of two sides yet to make a single signing.
With strong claims linking us with Hibernian talent Miguel Chaiwa, and suggestions that we are ‘very keen’ on signing the player following his standout debut season in the league – the 22 year old Zambian midfielder featured 33 times for them last year across all competitions. The Easter Road outfit are not said to be willing sellers, but with interest expected in his services it is being said that Hibs will only enter talks on offers at around the £7 million mark.
Celtic value him in the ballpark of £5 million though given the risk he poses of massively falling from grace when (if) second season syndrome hits. Sometimes you have to take a risk and with his defensive attributes the vast majority simply expect him to improve further with experience, feeling that he is no where near the ceiling of his potential yet.
