Celtic Transfer Boost as Niko Sigur Makes Feelings Clear With Seven-Figure Deal There to Be Done

Celtic have received an encouraging transfer boost with Niko Sigur reportedly making it clear that he wants to move to Parkhead.

According to the Daily Record, the 22-year-old Hajduk Split player has been aware of Celtic’s interest for a couple of weeks and is keen for the deal to happen.

That immediately makes this one worth watching.

Niko Sigur wants Celtic move

Sigur is a Canadian international who offers the type of versatility that could prove extremely useful to Martin O’Neill.

Capable of operating at right-back or in midfield, he would provide Celtic with another option in two areas of the squad.

Crucially, the attraction appears to be coming from the player as well as Celtic.

The prospect of linking up with Canada teammate Alistair Johnston is reportedly appealing to Sigur. So too is the opportunity to play Champions League football with the Scottish champions.

The Daily Record previously reported that Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson was preparing to open talks with Hajduk Split.

Now there appears to be a player ready and willing to make the move.

Hajduk will not simply allow one of their prized assets to leave cheaply. A significant seven-figure offer is reportedly required to get an agreement over the line.

Celtic midfield rebuild could accelerate

Celtic’s interest becomes even more intriguing amid potentially significant movement in midfield.

Arne Engels is set to complete a reported £22million transfer to West Ham United, while Panathinaikos have been linked with Reo Hatate.

Celtic therefore need to ensure any departures are followed by quality additions.

Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis is another player reportedly attracting interest, suggesting the recruitment work is already underway.

Sigur, however, brings an interesting additional dimension.

At just 22, he already has international experience and was part of Jesse Marsch’s Canada World Cup squad. His ability to cover midfield and right-back could also make him particularly valuable across a demanding domestic and European campaign.

Most importantly, Celtic seemingly would not need to convince Sigur about the destination.

He wants the move.

With a seven-figure fee apparently capable of unlocking negotiations, Celtic now have an opportunity to turn that enthusiasm into another potentially exciting addition.
