For years it has been a beacon of staunch in the east end.
A landmark that, well, was an eyesore just over a mile from Celtic Park, has now headed the same direction as the deid club in 2012.
RIP.
The Sun ran with the story this morning, announcing that the Louden would serve it’s last pints on the final weekend of August.
The decision was made after falling trade and soaring energy costs and business rates.
In reality, it will be because being part of the Ministry of Staunch is a dying cause.
Let’s be honest, a big blue building, emblazoned in Union Jacks and sporting supremacist slogans doesn’t exactly fit in with the ever-evolving landscape of today.
Funnily enough, Irish themed bars are popping up all over Glasgow, with their doors open to welcome Celtic fans from all across the city and beyond.
Supporting a winning team seems to drive a winning trade.
If you ask me, the tender shades of green you see on the front of an Irish bar fit in anywhere.
In any city.
Add a few nice flower baskets, and it’s all very appealing.
A far cry from Union Jacks, gaudy blue and supremacist clap trap.
The reality is that that shite just doesn’t sell any more.
And it’s a big reason the Louden is going to kick the bucket.
There was an outpouring of grief from Celtic fans (NOT!!), as they sent their condolences to the Louden and their patrons on X when the devastating news appeared in The Sun.
Years and years of spending outwith their means and side contracts for all the staff, apparently. 🫤 pic.twitter.com/9A4T4QhpaI

As reported in the Sun, the owners of the Louden, in true Ibrox form, blamed everybody else for the closure, including their patrons:
They urged people to support their local pubs otherwise they could see them disappear for good.
The post read: “Well its sad news for for the pub today, you know the old saying use your R*****s pubs or lose them, well unfortunately the time has come for The Louden to close its doors for the last time and it’s not being used.
“Please take on board and don’t let this happen to any other Rangers pub.
“Next weekend, the last weekend of the month we will have a weekend of entertainment to be announced in the coming days.
“So hopefully see you all for one last party in The Louden as this will be the doors closed for last time.”
Use your R*****s pubs or lose them.
Well that’s them told, isn’t it?
They should’ve used it, but they didn’t, so it’s tatty bye to the Louden.
Sad news indeed.
Fucking gutted. So sad. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/RLYf3d6tHC

Ah well, the end of an era, I suppose.
Just like another era ended in 2012.
Ah well.
Very sad.
Never mind.

Great to see. But instead of another Irish bar, why not make it Celtic themed bar – just for extra badness and annoyance to the orks
Irish pubs were all the rage when ONeills first opened on Sauchiehall st- jaysus the nights ruined by Rumpleminz in that place- but make it green white and orange and as Fenian as possible. In fact why not make it a true Fenian themed bar – the old mythological Irish warriors- kinda contradicting myself there- but anything to eradicate hunism is welcome
