This Celtic injury update is exactly the kind of news supporters needed to hear.
Martin O’Neill has delivered a hugely encouraging update on Kieran Tierney and Kasper Høgh, with both Celtic stars now appearing to be closing in on their return.
Neither is expected to feature against St Mirren tomorrow night. However, the bigger picture looks considerably more positive.
O’Neill revealed that Tierney is recovering quicker than he initially feared.
“Kieran is doing fine at this minute. Really fine. I thought that he might be a wee bit longer, and he’s doing fine.”
He also confirmed that Høgh is progressing well, saying the striker is “on the mend”.
Celtic injury update brings major relief
That should come as a real relief after the concern surrounding both players.
Tierney is hugely important to how Celtic play. His energy, experience and attacking threat from the left give O’Neill another dimension.
Getting him back quickly would therefore be a significant lift, particularly with a demanding run of fixtures ahead.
Høgh’s return would be equally welcome.
Camilo Duran has been in excellent form and gives Celtic a dangerous option through the middle. Adding Høgh back into the squad would suddenly give O’Neill real attacking depth and competition.
Most importantly, neither injury now sounds like something Celtic should be worrying about over the longer term.
Celtic injury update points towards quick returns
O’Neill believes that if the pair are not ready by next midweek, they could return for the game immediately after that.
That is extremely encouraging.
There is no reason to rush either player against St Mirren. Celtic need Tierney and Høgh fully fit rather than risking another setback for the sake of one match.
If both can return within the next week or so, O’Neill’s squad will immediately look stronger.
After a worrying few days, this feels like genuinely good news.
Celtic appear to have avoided two lengthy injury absences, and two hugely important players could soon be back exactly when O’Neill needs them most.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Tierney is recovering quicker than O’Neill initially expected.
- Høgh is also making good progress.
- Both are very unlikely to face St Mirren.
- A return next midweek or in the following game is possible.
- Having both back would significantly strengthen Celtic’s options.
