Celtic’s Camilo Durán Goes ‘Notorious’ as First Colombia Call-Up Rewards Sensational Start

A quick warning before we begin: this one is slightly tongue-in-cheek.

It may also be aimed primarily at the Celtic Da’s of a certain vintage.

Anyone born much after the 1980s may find themselves asking: Is There Something I Should Know?

Camilo Durán has earned his first senior Colombia call-up after a quite remarkable opening to his Celtic career.

And, frankly, it gives us the perfect excuse.

What could possibly go wrong?

Camilo Durán has been Hungry Like the Wolf

Since arriving at Celtic, the Colombian has looked Hungry Like the Wolf in front of goal.

Six goals in his opening seven appearances tells its own story, while some of those finishes have been absolutely spectacular.

Durán has pace, power and confidence. Give him even A View to a Kill around the penalty area and defenders suddenly have problems.

The Reflex is quick. The movement is excellent. And when he gets running at defenders, they can Come Undone very quickly indeed.

His performances earned him the SPFL Player of the Month award for August.

Now Colombia have noticed too.

For Durán, this is certainly no Ordinary World anymore.

A few months ago, he was playing for Qarabağ. Now he is scoring goals for Celtic, becoming a supporters’ favourite and joining up with the Colombian senior squad.

Notorious?

Durán plays with personality. He shoots from distance, works relentlessly and always looks capable of making something happen.

Opposition defenders might soon be wanting to Save a Prayer before facing him.

Even against St Mirren, when his own effort was disallowed, Durán still played his part in Yang Hyun-jun’s winner.

That willingness to influence games is already becoming one of his biggest qualities.

There will obviously be tougher afternoons ahead. That comes with football.

But the speed of Durán’s impact has been remarkable.

And before any Celtic Da’s shout Rio — wrong South American country. Behave yourselves.

From Colombia to Glasgow and now into the senior Colombia set-up, his rise has been rapid.
