It’s at times like this that I absolutely despise the Celtic board and Dermot Desmond.
I despise them because they’ve weakened us so much that the week before last’s disaster was allowed to happen.
As a result, the weaponisation of child abuse has gone off the scale.
It has been non-stop since last Sunday week, the pile on has been remarkable.
My social media channels have been filled with posts from Ibrox fans about child abuse, it’s wall to wall.
Before I go any further, I will state clearly that I am, and always will be, abhorred by what went on at the Celtic boys club back in the 1970’s.
However, the consistent use and weaponisation of this by the Ibrox fanbase is also abhorrent.
I am not writing this article to delve into this subject again, rather, I am doing it to point out that this is the way the fanbase of the club across the city behaves when they win against Celtic
I don’t understand why they just can’t win with dignity.
Why they just can’t enjoy their victory for the sport of football, instead of dragging up and weaponising something that has hurt many, many people over the years.
Ibrox fans don’t do this as a moral obligation to the victims of child abuse.
They do it as a points scoring exercise which is designed to demean and belittle Celtic.
There is zero consideration for the people who suffered during this era at Celtic, zero.
They also do it while using language such as Bheasts, tarriers, taigs, bead rattlers, and spud eaters.
I understand that there is a bitter rivalry between both clubs, but I’ve genuinely never seen anything like the pile on in the last fortnight or so.
After the loss at Ibrox, I also wrote an article highlighting the personal abuse of Martin O’Neill that went on there when Celtic lost 3-0
I had an Ibrox fan on X admit that it was out of line, and that there should be no place for that kind of thing at a football match.
I know there are good fans in that fanbase too, and that many of them are disgusted by the behaviour of their fanbase.
At the end of the day, this is just a game, but some people don’t see it that way.
I also know that this goes for both fanbases, and I’ll admit that we have bad elements in our own support too.
What football club doesn’t?
However, we do not pile on to the extent that the Ibrox fans do if we win a game against them.
The majority of the time there is plenty of piss taking after these games from Celtic fans.
Everybody gloats when they win a derby game, at every football club.
But any time I go onto social media after a victory over the Ibrox side, I spend a lot of time laughing at what I see and read.
Because the majority of it is humourous, not vicious.
The Celtic fanbase is renowned for it’s sense of humour, and that shows after derby victories
There is nothing humourous about the way the Ibrox fanbase behaves after a derby victory.
The abuse is incessant.
The demeaning name calling is incessant.
And the references to child abuse are never ending.
On Friday evening, I wrote that losing our domestic dominance may be the only way to begin the process of removing Dermot Desmond from our club.
If that loss happens, we also need to be prepared for what will come from the Ibrox fans.
If the last two derby losses are anything to go by, it will be off the scale.
Once again, the Celtic board and Dermot Desmond has put us in this position.
They can never be forgiven for that.
The Ibrox fans will never change, but we need to exact change at our club.
I think we all know that time is coming…

That’s all they know, you can’t sit down with them and have a debate about football or banter with them without them bringing CA into the conversation As you quite rightly said that there are bad elements in our support. As my late great father once said to me, ‘They are bigger haters than us’ How true are his words.
As Celtic supporters, we have no control over how other ‘fans’ behave, although there can be a degree of influence on our own supporters. As the article acknowledges, there will always be an element of our own who might, let’s just say, ‘benefit’ from ‘reminders’ concerning the original values which have been enshrined since our foundation in 1887/88. The culture of Celtic has evolved and developed such values to the extent that any deviance from these norms may be accurately, and fairly, perceived as exceptional.
Such history contrasts with the culture of the football institution from Govan, which has prevailed across its different versions. Sadly, the silent, virtually invisible, minority of that fanbase might indeed abhor the dominant pernicious ethos of their club. However, the many tens of thousands who, in defiant unison, regularly, and unashamedly convey hatred and bigotry will continue to shape and maintain such a toxic culture. It is against such a backdrop that any attempt to shame pernicious wallowing in a clearly reprehensible dimension of our society will inevitably be rendered entirely futile.
The Establishment in Scotland will maintain its criminal blindness to such attitudes and conduct, despite the manifestation of consistently disgusting spectacles on a regular basis within, but not limited to, the confines of their football stadium. Their repeated references and allusions to a sorry dimension of society reflects their character and culture, individually and collectively, of a club which accommodates and encourages such public displays of hate. Protestations are understandable, but they must be tempered by the reality of ultimately not making a blind bit of difference. Sad, but true.
There were 4 teams named in the original investigation into child abuse in Scottish football. The 4 teams mentioned by name were Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and a lower league club, It stated that a paedophile ring had been operating throughout the game in Scotland.
I’m afraid no team covered themselves in glory, tackling this stuff. In later years there was even one who stated they were a new club, in response to possible legal action.

There is absolutely no point appealing to their better nature as they have non.
Much of this is due to the fact that Celtic have had, especially since Fergus left, a compliant Boardroom which has seldom defended the club from attacks. It never challenges accusations or allows the media to write scurrilous articles without any response. Add to this the snail’s pace that they react to anything and the ineptitude of our PR Dept (headed by a Hearts fan) any story is allowed to run and run, as the Motherwell penalty fiasco and hence Celtic are always left as the guilty party. In that episode Celtic said nothing but later when the decision was verified after a few weeks the Board announced that their silence was correct and the revised decision justified their tactic. This is just another example of their “behind closed doors” philosophy which has never achieved much for us. As long as they are silent we can be abused from pillar to post without any repercussions, except when it comes to our own support!
