24th October 2026; Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow, Scotland; Scottish Premiership Football, Rangers versus St. Johnstone; Rangers manager Derek McInnes shouts instructions to his players
Derek McInnes says he feels guilty for leaving Hearts?
Let’s be honest here, once the Ibrox side came calling, there was no way he was ever saying no.
Especially for the second time.
The Scottish Sun had him in front of the cameras yesterday, preparing the ground for his return to Tynecastle tonight.
Here is what he said, as reported by the Scottish Sun:
I understand that it’s not going to be great for me tomorrow but I get it.
My view on it is that at Hearts we were hurting.
It was almost as if you were in mourning.
So I kind of feel the GUILT about whether I stayed or whether I left.
Guilt, he says.
Funny how it didn’t stop him packing his bags a matter of weeks after the title slipped away from his players.
Make no mistake, that’s not guilt, that’s a man covering his tracks.
Personally, I hope he gets toasted at Tynecastle tonight.
Much as I dislike both sides, there will still be a great deal of satisfaction in seeing McInnes having his a*** handed to him by Wouter Vrancken’s side.
And I mean that.
Hopefully, Claudio Braga scores as well, just to rub salt into the wounds.
Obviously for Celtic, a draw is the best outcome.
Because it allows us to open up the gap on both sides, if we can then win against Dundee United.
But I’ll tell you this much, I won’t be sitting there hoping for a draw.
A Hearts win will do me nicely, thanks.
Karma’s a bitch, ain’t it?
McInnes is still pissing and moaning about how he lost the title with Hearts last season.
Needless to say, he hasn’t stopped.
Look at the rest of that press conference.
He talks about a “real injustice”, and a “grievance” towards the end of the season.
He says that if it weren’t for a few contentious decisions going against them, Hearts would have won it.
Sound familiar?
It should, because it’s the same song we’ve been hearing from Gorgie since May.
As pointed out on Videocelts earlier today, though, one Hearts fan was having none of it.
Nikki Dunn, a Hearts supporter, took to X to remind him of a few home truths.
@ClydeSSB You didn’t finish 2nd with a team that had finished bottom 6 ya deluded fud! Was a different squad with far better players and the rotund, devious git who downed tools the previous season on TWO Head Coaches bust a gut knowing he had a clause for the move he desperately wanted.

Read that again.
A man who “downed tools” at his previous club, according to her, and who had a clause for the move he desperately wanted.
That’s not me saying it, that’s a Hearts fan.
And she wasn’t finished.
@AsTrubludru @ClydeSSB The post explains what I’m on about and wouldn’t kiss his hand never mind his arse! He had 11 new signings, had no Europe to contend with and no cup runs. Cheated out of the title? Nothing to do with us dropping 16 points from an available 21 in our last 9 away games of course :face_with_rolling_eyes:

Eleven new signings, no Europe and no cup runs.
That’s a lot of free Saturdays for a team that still came up short.
Hearts dropped 16 points out of 21, and no amount of ‘we were hard done by’s’ can change that.
As Nikki Dunn quite rightly points out, that’s not on the referee.
That’s down to McInnes and his management.
Now, I’ll give him one thing.
Taking a team that finished in the bottom six and getting it to 80 points is a fine achievement, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.
But that’s the bit he’s happy to talk about.
The bit where the points went missing, not so much.
Because McInnes will take no accountability for that, will he?
Instead, it’s all John Beaton’s fault.
The ‘disgusting’ injury time penalty Celtic were given against Motherwell, apparently, is the reason Hearts didn’t win the title.
Never mind the points they dropped in the weeks before it.
Never mind that the fixtures were there for all to see.
It’s always somebody else.
And the funniest part of all is that he’ll walk out at Tynecastle tonight, dressed in the colours of the Ibrox side, and expect the Hearts support to understand.
They won’t.
And why would they?
I hope Lawrence Shankland is booed with every single touch he has.
Because let’s not forget that McInnes wasn’t the only one.
He admits himself that he felt “let down” when Shankland left for Ibrox, and then did exactly the same thing a couple of weeks later.
You couldn’t make it up.
So I’m looking forward to tonight, I really am.
I really hope Hearts paste McInnes and his Ibrox side, and that Shankland is booed with every single touch.
Although I’m sure he won’t have many.
It promises to be an interesting evening…
