Last night, as I’m sure many of you are all aware, we ran the Great Celtic Debate on the Trinity Tims podcast.
It was a first attempt at trying to debate with somebody who would consider themselves pro-board.
Firstly, I’d like to thank Martin Conway for having the courage to come on the show.
He stepped into the breach where many others wouldn’t.
Siamese Bhoy, 1888Seamus, and Marcus O (The self-proclaimed scrutiniser of fan media), were all invited to do what he did.
None of them accepted the invite.
Rather, they ridiculed it.
So I have a lot of respect for Martin for coming on and stating his case.
The invite for the others still stands.
In fact, I would welcome another Celtic debate where somebody could state a better case than Martin did
Because although he tried, Martin did not convince any of us, and I include the majority of our audience in this, that the Celtic board are doing a good job.
What he did convince us of is that he 100% supports the Celtic board.
Blindly.
While I controlled the debate, Martin was given the opportunity to state his case.
He did that.
But I have to say that Joe and James’s counterarguments absolutely destroyed Martin’s arguments.
Yes, Martin came with what he thought were the facts when it comes to the Celtic board and Dermot Desmond, but every one of them was taken apart
Piece by piece.
James put up an excellent piece this morning on The Celtic Blog, in it, he lays out precisely why last night’s show wasn’t a debate because Martin didn’t come to debate.
He came to show his undying loyalty to a failing regime.
And all he succeeded in was having that undying loyalty taken apart.
I would personally be hopeful that last night’s show would open the door to further shows like it.
As James said in his article title, There will be a Great Celtic Debate, last night sadly wasn’t it.
And it wasn’t.
Regardless of that, it has garnered a huge reaction.
From both sides of the Glasgow divide.
It seems that the huns are utterly obsessed about the fact that we are willing to openly discuss the problems at our club.
One post on X from a hun account has hit 106k views, see below:

It’s interesting that they didn’t debate the peril their club was in 14 years ago.
If they had, it mightn’t be dead now
Look, last night didn’t reinvent the wheel when it came to the way both factions of the Celtic support view the club.
Whichever we look at it, we are entrenched in our views.
Martin didn’t change our opinions on how Celtic is being run, and we certainly didn’t change his.
But it’s a start.
I will be putting another invite up on the Read Celtic X page for more pro-board fans to come on and debate with us on the Trinity Tims.
I would hope that someone could bring a stronger argument than Martin did.
I’m also happy to allow more than one on the show to even up the debate numbers.
A few people thought Martin was unfairly outnumbered
However, I made it clear to him before he came on what he would be up against.
He was totally aware of it, and accepted the challenge.
For that much, he deserves my respect, and once again I’d like to thank him for playing his part in opening up a debate that needed to be had.
To that end, for anybody out there who feels they can do a better job than Martin did, there is an open invite.
I sincerely doubt we’ll get any takers.
Which shows just how much of a minority the happy clappers are right now.
After the “Great Celtic Debate” on the Trinity Tims, I get the feeling there will be a few less.
In the end, this was like shooting fish in barrel.
I look forward to the next one…
