Celtic have lodged a last-minute improved bid to sign John McGinn from Hibernian, despite Aston Villa appearing to win the race to sign the player.
The Daily Record reports that the Hoops have put their hands in their pockets and matched the offer put forward by Villa.
The midfielder was given permission to travel to Villa and hold talks over a potential move to the Championship.
Steve Bruce’s side looked set to beat Celtic to the player, who had been linked with a move to Parkhead throughout the summer.
Brendan Rodgers even voiced his displeasure about Celtic’s inability to wrap up a deal to sign McGinn in time.
Both clubs are now believed to be close to an agreement with Hibs, with the player now being faced with a decision to make about his next move.
It has been well documented that McGinn is a boyhood Celtic fan, which may boost the Hoops’ chances of securing a deal.
