Celtic face competition for French defender Perraud

Celtic are interested in signing Nice defender Romain Perraud this summer, with the France youth international keen on leaving the Ligue 1 club.

The 21-year old defender spent last season on loan with Paris FC in France’s Ligue 2, and despite being under contract until 2021, is keen on leaving the Allianz Riviera this summer.

Speaking to L’Equipe, as reported by GFFN, Perraud claimed that Nice’s lack of keeping in touch with him during his loan spell contributed to his desire for a new challenge, with the defender saying:

I am under contract. I respect people, but this season, I did not receive a single call from then when was I performing very well.

I am not even speaking about a contract extension offer, just to have a catch-up with me. This is a difficult situation and I hope that it will decant very quickly…

I have no news from the current representatives but Nice have missed the boat with me. I want a new challenge.

While a fair few clubs have made approaches to the player’s entourage, Brest have made a proposal to Nice, while Celtic have just enquired.

The Hoops’ main issue is that Nice haven’t set an asking price for Perraud, which leaves his long-term situation unclear. It also appears that manager Patrick Vieira, as well as several board members, are desperate to see Perraud stay at the Riviera.
