Afolabi outlines his intentions for next season
Jonathan Afolabi has outlined his intentions for the 2020/21 season and he seems determined to make a big impact on Celtic’s possible push for 10-in-a-row.
In an interview with The Athletic’s Kieran Devlin, Afolabi opened up on his desire to break into the first-team next season and perform at a high level consistently for Celtic.
My ambition next season is to get into the first-team squad at Celtic, to get game time, and push on — to showcase what I’ve got. I need to improve every day, and make an impact when I do play, rather than fade into the background. I need to have those nine-out-of-10 performances consistently. Then we’ll see.

Given the competition for places, Afolabi is likely to need to produce that high level he is after on a regular basis to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up, as anything less could see him ‘fade’ away, as he suggests.
But if his comments and the early signs from his Celtic career are anything to go by, then he could be a real asset to the club in the future.
The 20-year-old is yet to make his debut since signing a three-year deal with Celtic last summer, after leaving Southampton, but he did flourish for the Reserves during the first half of the season.
Those displays reportedly impressed Neil Lennon and led him to believe that Afolabi can offer Celtic a different dimension in attack, in the future.
Dunfermline boss Stevie Crawford has also praised the striker for the impact he has made since joining on loan in January, suggesting he has the skillset to become a complete striker in the future.
