Opinion: Celtic must put time limit on potential game-changing transfer

The Celtic and Cho Gue-sung signing saga doesn’t look like it is going to be over anytime soon, as the Hoops wait to see if their offer for the striker will be accepted.

The signing of the World Cup star would be a game-changer for the Hoops, as it would then allow the club to sell Georgios Giakoumakis if they wanted, and also really provide some big competition to Kyogo for the main striker slot at Celtic Park.

Now the player has spoken out about his future, and this is what the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors talent has had to say on the matter, as quoted by the Daily Record:

I’m contemplating the timing of a European transfer while talking and communicating with director Park Ji-sung and coach Kim Sang-shik. I’ve seen many articles, but I haven’t heard anything concrete yet. Not only me, but any player will have the same desire to go to Europe as soon as a good opportunity comes.

Now it does seem to be a promising sign for Celtic that the player has admitted that he is contemplating a transfer to Europe, but there is also a downside, that the player might not make his mind up in a suitable timeframe for Celtic.

The Hoops should really put a time limit on this potential transfer, give it another week for example, and if nothing has happened move on to new striking targets.

Celtic must want to sign the player or they wouldn’t have made an offer in the first place, but with the ongoing saga involving Georgios Giakoumakis’ future also rumbling in the background, the Hoops will want to get an answer to their offer to sign Cho sooner rather than later, as the transfer window shuts in around three weeks time.

So Celtic will want to know the state of play with the potential signing of Cho soon, so that if the player doesn’t want to leave South Korea in the current transfer window, or indeed if he decides to join another club and not move to Glasgow, then the Hoops can wish the player well but move on to another transfer target that can play up-front for the Bhoys.

Hopefully Cho does agree to join the Hoops, as he looks to be a good player that could add a lot to the Celtic side, but time is running out, and the Hoops will need a decision from the player on his future over the next few days.
