It seems like everyone wants to blame Celtic for Scotland’s Euro thrashing, as the Record piles it on as well. Meanwhile, Souness claims he forgot Callum McGregor’s name

So, it’s all Celtic’s fault.
Scotland’s abysmal performance against Germany is rooted in Celtic’s failure to achieve anything in Europe.
One caller had this to say on the Record’s hotline after the 5-1 thrashing in Munich.
One caller.
Yet Andy Newport felt it should headlines in today’s Record.
Here is the headline in question:

Now, I don’t usually read any of the excerpts from the hotline, because personally, I think it’s a load of garbage.
But today, I just had to read it to see the pile on after that headline.
I was left scratching my head.
Nobody, except for one caller, blamed Celtic’s failures in Europe as the catalyst for Friday nights hammering.
Robbie Wood, whoever he is, must be delighted that Andy Newport, he who wrote last week’s sycophantic love in with Marco Negri on Clinton Nsiala, took his comment and made it into a headline.
Upon reading that headline, it would lead you to believe that this is the general opinion of everybody.
But as stated earlier, only caller Robbie Wood said this.
This is a prime example of jumping on something to bash Celtic with, and running with it.
Because that’s exactly what Newport has done, when in reality, there is no basis of fact for what his headline says.
Bar one person’s opinion.
Which makes it all the more pathetic.
How can Celtic’s failings in Europe be responsible for what happened on Friday night?
When, in reality, a big chunk of the responsibility for that result rests on the shoulders of Ryan Porteus, whose hot headedness immediately put Scotland on the back foot.
It was always going to be a struggle when they were reduced to ten men against a side like Germany.
The Germans may be ranked 16th in the current FIFA rankings, but they still pack a serious punch with the players they have at their disposal.
The fact that they were on home soil, with a partisan crowd behind them, made it a serious uphill climb for Scotland, even with 11 men.
But as I said, it seems everyone in the media wants to pile on and find a way to blame Celtic for the loss.
We also had Graeme Souness’ comments on Friday night, where he singled out the “Celtic captain” for special criticism.
Now we’re being told in the latest article on this subject in the Record, that Souness forgot Callum McGregor’s name, and that’s why he referred to him as the Celtic captain.
What is he?
Senile?
How do you forget the name of the Captain of your country’s international team.
Here’s what Souness had to say for himself:
I couldn’t remember his name. But I knew he was captain of Celtic. I have to say, that question can only arise in the west of Scotland. I forgot his name, I couldn’t remember his name but I knew he was a good little football player and if it’s been taken as a slant or criticism, I didn’t mean it. I genuinely forgot his name.
I mean seriously?
Does Souness really believe we’re that thick?
Pull the other one!
Souness knows he was out of line.
Now he’s back tracking to try and cover up his actions.
It won’t wash.
Overall, the media’s attempts to blame Celtic for the loss to Germany are pathetic.
But I’m sure we’ll see plenty more of it before the tournament ends for Scotland.
Especially if another poor showing is on the cards against Switzerland.
However, I do think Callum McGregor will take Souness’ comments and use them as motivation to put in a serious shift against the Swiss.
And as a Celtic fan, I really hope he makes him eat his words!

Souness is a fud, who cares what he has to say. The Scotland team bottled it on Friday, Germany did play well, but we were woeful. After losing the early goal they panicked, nothing to do with tactics etc. By the way Robertson is the captain of Scotland, not Cal, as you wrongly claim in your article, as bad as Souness.
After watching Hungary and Switzerland, I do not believe we will get anything out of it. We are not good enough. Midfield not strong enough or tall enough. Defence to static and striker.
Callum should retire after Hungary game. We need him for next season.
After the latest carry on-and the blatant bias shown to the Huns last season-all the Celtic players should tell the SFA where they can stick their international caps.
