This transfer window is payback for the end of the summer window, pressure was applied to the Celtic board then, it is not being applied now

Last summer, at the close of the transfer window, I commented that we would be made to pay for such a high spending window in January.

We all remember Peter Lawwell being lambasted at St. Mirren for the lack of activity up to that point.

The folly of selling our top striker, whether he wanted to go or not, has yet to reveal itself.

There are still rumours flying about that we might yet get Tierney here on loan until the end of the season.

I personally think it’s highly unlikely at this point.

But we’ll wait and see.

All week, I’ve had board apologists telling me to relax, there’s a strategy in place.

Have patience, this will take time.

There’s a new way of operating, it will take time to transition from the old way.

And on, and on, and on.

There is no new way of operating at Celtic.

And the reason no pressure is being applied to the board is because of the satisfaction last summer’s window brought.

They’re riding off the credit attained from that window.

But that will run out at the end of the window if there is no change in our transfer purchases before Monday.

The board has gambled our Champions League progress because we desperately needed £10 million.

On top of what we have already earned in that competition.

We also didn’t need Alex Valle on our wage bill, so he’s gone to Como.

Yes, we’ve brought in Jota, and I’m delighted we have, but right now, we are weaker than we entered this window.

Is that acceptable?

Brendan Rodgers didn’t exactly fill fans full of confidence with his comments on Sky Sports earlier, did he?

Today, Celtic have apparently switched our attentions to striker David Strelec, of Slovan Bratislava.

Once again, it doesn’t exactly fill you full of enthusiasm, does it?

To me, it feels like the board is saying, ‘we spent big in the summer, what did you expect this time around?’

Like I said last summer, I felt we’d be made to pay for it.

To balance the books from an accounting perspective, of course.

And unless there is major movement between now and Monday, it really does look as if the fans are going to be expected to just accept this.

The board apologists will call it progress.

They’ll tell you it’s a strategy.

We all know what it is though, it’s Celtic being Celtic.

Well, more to the point, it’s the Celtic board, being the Celtic board.

Reverting to type and doing what they always do.

Weakening the football operation.

To balance the books.

Which are the most important thing at Celtic.

Strategy?
