Celtic’s possible signing of Callum Osmand from Fulham screams project. He certainly doesn’t look like a serious replacement for Kyogo

So there are a lot of people out there wetting themselves at the prospect of Celtic signing Fulham youth player, Callum Osmand.
I can’t say I’m one of them.
This kid is 19 years of age, and has not featured for the Fulham first team during his time there.
Yes, he may have scored 10 goals for Fulham’s Premier League 2 side, but that certainly does not make him a first team ready striker for Celtic.
Apparently Celtic have been scouting him for a while now.
I can only assume he’s being brought in as a project, with the hope that he will eventually progress to the first team.
I will also assume that Celtic remain in the market for a more high profile striking option.
Look, I get that we are still a side that invests in young players with a view to developing them, and then selling them on for a profit.
With Johnny Kenny mooted to be heading out on loan, could we really say that this kid has more experience than the Irishman?
If Brendan Rodgers likes him, then maybe he feels he can develop him into a first team striker?
But it doesn’t exactly look like a signing to fill you full of excitement, does it?
Osmand made 22 appearances in total last season, between EPL2 and the EFL trophy.
He got to test himself against other EPL youth players, and sides from the lower leagues in English football.
None of which would resemble a trip to Livingston on a cold winter’s night to try and batter a packed defence on an astro-turf pitch.
At least he’ll only have to put up with astro-turf pitches next season.
They’re banned from the start of the 2026/27 season.
I’m trying to see the upside to this signing and I can’t.
Maybe I’m being pessimistic here, and he could turn out to be a great acquisition.
I guess the scouting team have seen something in him, and they feel he’d be a good addition to the squad?
I just don’t see how – considering his lack of experience – he’d be first team ready?
It seems like a like for like swap for Johnny Kenny, who’ll be shipped out on loan.
Which in reality, doesn’t really strengthen our striking options.
So I’ll just stay positive, and say that that high profile striking option we require is in Celtic’s plans.
I’m sure there’ll be a few more big rumours circulating before the window opens officially on the 16th?

What’s wrong with young Kenny as a third striker? This lad sounds like another drain on the wage bill of a squad which is already bloated with guys who never get a sniff at a game.

First marker that the rumblings of Brendan Rodgers completing his contract and Peter Lawwell back ruling his way with a rod of iron to enhance the balance sheet and prepare for a spend with a new manager next year is true?
It seems this is just a site to slam Celtic.
An incredibly successful Celtic at that.
