Another week wasted. With Keane in Korea, and the weekend looming, it’s unlikely we’ll get an announcement on who will be the next Celtic boss

It’s now two weeks since Celtic won the Scottish Cup in the sunshine at Hampden Park.

Two weeks, and the managerial position is still not filled.

Two weeks, and all we’ve really heard are two names.

Robbie Keane and Martin O’Neill.

It seems that Dermot Desmond seems intent on making the support sweat over this appointment.

That wouldn’t be like him now, would it?

The momentum seems to be gathering amongst the support when it comes to making our feelings known about the potential appointment of Keane.

The Green Brigade have also weighed in with a statement on Keane.

It seems that the idea of his appointment is going to meet huge resistance amongst a large proportion of the Celtic support.

Below is the statement from the Green Brigade:

As Celtic fans, we oppose the proposed appointment of Robbie Keane as manager of Celtic Football Club.

Celtic supporters have a long and proud history of solidarity with the Palestinian people. For us, Robbie Keane’s decision to man-age Maccabi Tel Aviv during the genocide in Gaza is impossible to ignore.

To choose to manage a club in Israel while, less than 40 miles away, the same country was using indiscriminate weapons of mass murder against a defenceless people is unconscionable.

Celtic was founded by a community shaped by the legacy of genocide, displacement and famine. Our club’s roots lie in solidar-ity with those who suffered injustice and oppression. We cannot forget where we came from, nor turn our backs on those facing genocide today.

At a time when Celtic requires unity and collective purpose, this appointment would be deeply divisive among the support. It would also represent a predictable and uninspiring choice at a moment when greater ambition is needed.

We urge the Celtic board to listen to supporters’ concerns and reconsider this appointment.

Now Desmond can listen to the concerns of the Celtic support, or he can ignore them.

Can’t bring himself to attend a game.

Can’t bring himself to attend AGM’s.

Yet makes all the decisions at the club, that he sees as a wee play toy for him and his son.

Desmond might be a lot of things, but he isn’t stupid.

If he ignores the fans wishes, and goes ahead and appoints Robbie Keane as the new Celtic manager, it will be a cynical move of breathtaking proportions.

It will be clear that it was done with only one intention in mind.

To give two fingers to the support, and to be as antagonistic as possible.

If that ends up being the case, that is not leadership.

It is childish, immature, and petty behaviour.

And certainly not something you’d expect from a 75 year old billionaire.

The reality is that if Desmond forges ahead with this move, it will be proof positive that he has zero interest in leadership when it comes to Celtic.

It will prove to every single Celtic fan out there that this man sees our football club as his plaything, and something to toy with.

Desmond doesn’t seem to care in the slightest that he is toying with the emotions of tens of thousands of Celtic fans.

In fact, it all seems like it’s a game to him.

Almost like he derives some sort of sadistic pleasure out of sowing division amongst the Celtic support.

He does this because he knows he can.

Because nobody stands in his way.

But in the end, every despot dictator always ends up pushing the people too far.

If Desmond hires Keane, it will now definitely be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

It will be the move that causes the dam to burst.

There is no chance now that an announcement will be made over the weekend.

Another week has been wasted in this process.

With Keane in Korea to play a Liverpool legends match, and the outcome of talks with Martin O’Neill yet to be revealed, it seems as if Desmond and his minions are content to leave the Celtic support stew for a while yet.

Craig Bellamy has been mentioned on the periphery, but it doesn’t look like there’s any substance to that.

Desmond is going to do one of two things.

He will either forge ahead with hiring Keane, in the event that Martin O’Neill turns the role down.

Or he will hit us with something completely out of left-field.

In the past, Desmond would have been able to pull strings when it came to managerial appointments for Celtic.

But I think that his and the club’s reputation has nose dived over the last year or so.

While the role of Celtic manager still holds gravitas, after the treatment of Brendan Rodgers last season, many managers would look at the role and feel it’s just not worth the hassle.

Which is why there are only two candidates on the managerial shortlist.

Desmond can’t see it, not does he want to see it.

He personally has made the Celtic manager role a poisoned chalice.

As long as he is in control of our club, we’ll never have a serious managerial candidate again.

That’s our reality from here on out.

He is bringing our club to its knees.

Will this madness never end?
