So finally we actually have a significant transfer rumour at Celtic.
Aren’t we blessed?
Apparently Celtic have been ‘eyeing’ Lithuanian international midfielder Gvidas Gineitis as a replacement for Arne Engels for months.
That’s encouraging, isn’t it?
This could be construed as actual planning from Celtic.
There’s only one problem with a move like this, though.
Gineitis plies his trade in Serie A with Torino, who finished just below mid-table last season.
He is fairly well established with the Turin side, and has been on their books since 2023.
One would imagine his asking price could be pretty hefty.
Established Serie midfielders don’t come cheap, you know?
Combine that with a Celtic board that has a serious aversion to spending money – any amount of money – and you have a bit of a conundrum, don’t you?
If you’re not sure what I mean, just reference Marcelo Saracchi.
If we’re not willing to pay a cut price £1.3 million for a Uruguayan international, then what makes anyone think we’d be inclined to fork out serious money for an established Serie A midfielder?
At a guess, Gineitis would be going for anywhere close to £10 million.
In addition to that, according to an article in the Sun, Torino aren’t exactly in a rush to sell him.

Torino holds Gvidas in high regard and believes in his future.
The player has steadily improved within the club and is considered an important part of the project.
At the same time, Gvidas is ambitious, as any player competing at this level should be.
There have already been expressions of interest from other clubs, which is natural considering his age, performance, and potential.
If an interesting offer were to arrive for both Torino and Gvidas, it would certainly be carefully evaluated

You will note there is zero mention of interest from Celtic, though.
Now, bear in mind the £11 million that evil and self serving Brendan Rodgers insisted we pay for Arne Engels?
This caused the Celtic board to have a nervous break down they haven’t recovered from since.
So, do you really think they’d be willing to fork out big money for his replacement?
I’ll let you be the judge of that.
While the idea of Gineitis coming to Celtic is a nice one, I fear that this particular ‘target’ will be one that is conveniently missed.
Not only would he probably cost too much, it would probably be a lot of unnecessary hard work for Silent Mike to get a deal over the line.
Not worth the hassle.
Best to do nothing at all.

Fro my part of the world it is “know it all’s” as usual running of at the mouth. It has no impact.
Stop the moaning and derogatory comments and get behind the CSL if you are serious about change at Celtic.
This constant attempt to belittle Board members is quite immature and having negative impact on any change at Board level.
