Bhoycie Rumours are swirling that Martin O’Neill has either resigned or is seriously considering his future at Celtic.
At the time of writing, they’re only rumours. Nothing has been confirmed.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth…
If they turned out to be true, I wouldn’t blame him for one second.
Not after what’s unfolded this summer.
I warned you about him leaving on the eve of the new Premier League Season with Villa on a couple of occasions on this site over a month ago.
Martin O’Neill didn’t come back to Celtic for another scraped league title.
He came back because he believed he could build something that could give him one last crack at The Champions League.
He was promised backing. The chairman promised the club would be “very active” in the transfer market.
Instead, he’s watched player after player leave while only one permanent signing has arrived.
He’s watched Daizen Maeda decide to move to Ipswich. Reo Hatate’s future remains uncertain. Arne Engels continues to attract interest. The spine of the team that won the Double is being picked apart before the new season has even started.
And what has Celtic’s response been?
Weeks spent trying to shave a few hundred thousand pounds off the asking price for Mika Baur.
Weeks of waiting for Kasper Høgh.
Weeks of “talks ongoing.”
Weeks of “positive discussions.”
The same script we’ve watched every single summer.
Managers don’t ask for miracles.
They ask for preparation.
They ask for players through the door before the season starts.
Instead, Celtic continue to operate as though winning every negotiation is more important than winning football matches.
That’s not ambition.
That’s complacency.
I hope these rumours are nothing more than social media noise but the WhatsApp rumours are flying guys…
Because Martin O’Neill is exactly the type of manager Celtic need right now.
But if he has reached the point where he believes he cannot get the support required to take this team forward, then the real question isn’t why he’d walk away.
The real question is…
How has Celtic allowed it to get to this point again?

If true it’s a disgrace that it’s come to this but I’ve said for weeks now he should walk as these bastards are conning him as well as the supporters all they want is our money to put in the bank

I wouldn’t blame the man for saying enough is enough. After what he achieved last season for the club he loves. This board are treating him abysmally. One player in the door. He said after last season that whoever got the job would need money to spend. It was as clear as the nose on your face we needed players. And just any players. Players who could take this great club to another level. But what’s happened. He’s been treated like an interim manager with no say on what players are signed. He had to fight to get his backroom staff in. That should have been a red flag right there Martin. If you leave Martin. You leave with your legacy intact. You’re a legend sir. Second only to the great jock Stein. YNWA!!!
