Has Martin O’Neill Forced Celtic’s Hand with Høgh?

If the reports are accurate, Celtic are about to break the Club’s transfer record.

Kasper Høgh is reportedly on the verge of completing an £11 million-plus move from Bodø/Glimt, eclipsing the previous club record and signalling a level of spending we simply haven’t associated with Celtic enough.

Sky Sports are reporting Celtic are in talks for the striker, while other outlets now claim an agreement has been reached for a fee above £11 million.

And I’ll be honest…

I’m absolutely buzzing.

This is exactly the type of signing I’ve been crying out for.

A player entering his prime. Proven. European experience. A striker who looks capable of making an immediate impact.

This ain’t no project signing.

But the excitement also leaves me asking one massive question.

Why now?

Because this doesn’t feel like Celtic.

This is the same club that has reportedly spent weeks haggling over a few hundred thousand euros for Mika Baur.

The same club that has built a reputation for walking away if the price climbs too high.

Celtic’s terms or no deal essentially.

Yet suddenly they’re prepared to go beyond £11 million for one player.

It’s brilliant…

But it’s also completely out of character.

Which inevitably brings us to Martin O’Neill.

Yesterday, social media was awash with rumours suggesting O’Neill’s future was in doubt.

I might of wrote an article on it…

To be clear, there has been no official confirmation that he resigned or threatened to resign, and the speculation remains unverified – it was WhatsApp rumours only, honestly.

However, the timing is difficult to ignore.

Only one permanent signing had arrived while a host of players had departed, and pressure on the board was building by the day.

Then, all of a sudden…

Celtic appear ready to spend a club-record fee.

Coincidence?

Maybe.

Or maybe someone inside Celtic finally realised that standing still wasn’t an option.

Perhaps they recognised they couldn’t risk losing another manager frustrated by the pace of recruitment – If O’Neill left, heads would have to of rolled.

Perhaps they finally accepted that ambition has to be demonstrated, not simply spoken about.

The Board are potentially just saving their own skin.

Terrified from an ultimatum issued? I’ll let you ponder that.

But this much is clear.

If Kasper Høgh arrives for more than £11 million, Celtic will have done something many supporters believed they simply wouldn’t do.

They’ve backed their manager and moved decisively.

They’ve paid what it takes.

Now they have to make sure this isn’t remembered as a one-off.

I feel they have been spooked into it. SOMETHING has went down.

Has Martin O’Neill bit back?

Were those rumours yesterday a huge weapon in his battle to get what he wants delivered.

If Celtic genuinely want to compete in Europe and keep elite managers at the football club, this has to become the standard—not the exception.

If this deal gets over the line, I’ll be the first to applaud it.

Now don’t stop there, Martin.

Keep them panicked, keep them on their toes.
