You have to laugh at this.
Dermot Desmond was trying to enjoy his round at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship when Celtic supporters decided to make sure the club’s largest individual shareholder knew exactly how they were feeling.
And they did it with tennis balls.
As Desmond stood waiting to take his next shot, tennis balls started flying onto the course around him. The look on his face told its own story. He looked absolutely scunnered by the whole thing.
Epic scenes.
Look, if this is one of the only ways Celtic supporters can actually get their message anywhere near Dermot Desmond, then let it be.
I’ve seen people getting worked up about it and suggesting it was out of order. I’m miles away from that.
Nobody was hurt. Nobody needs threatened. There is obviously a line and nobody wants to see that crossed.
But throwing some tennis balls onto a golf course?
Come on.
It’s a comical, jovial way of letting the man at the top know that Celtic supporters are far from happy with what is happening at their football club.
Desmond isn’t exactly somebody supporters can bump into outside Celtic Park and ask what’s going on. He rarely speaks publicly about Celtic and opportunities for supporters to make their feelings known directly to him are few and far between.
Well, they found one.
The golf might have been taking place miles away from Celtic Park, but Desmond certainly wasn’t getting away from the feelings of the Celtic support.
And that’s really what this was about.
A few tennis balls, a very unhappy-looking Dermot Desmond and Celtic supporters finding another way of telling him that, in their eyes, he is currently persona non grata at Celtic Football Club.
If that interrupted his round for a couple of minutes?
I think he’ll survive.
It’s childish and won’t make an impact, if anything it will strengthen his resolve in shutting the supporters out!
I am all for testing that resolve.
And if he wants to stay on even more in spite of that then even more reason to want him gone.
The good thing about the tennis balls protest is that the Sky Sports cameras were covering the golf tournament where it happened and now the entire planet will now know exactly what is going on behind closed doors of Celtic FC . Everyone will know that the protest was because of the way Celtic FC is being run by the club board and the major shareholder Mr Dermot Desmond ? It’s the first time too that Sky Sports has helped out in a pro Celtic fans situation ….albeit unintentional .
I think that the sooner Desmond an odious untrustworthy example of the human race gets the message the better, this will culminate in more fans deserting this stinking ship that he has turned Celtic into otherwise there will an unrecognisable grotesque Celtic in the image of the malignant growth Desmond, stop giving them your money or you are complicit in the destruction of our club
