Free agent striker Carlton Cole could reject a move to Celtic in favour of a move to Sunderland.
The 31-year-old has grown impatient with Celtic, with reports that Cole and his agent are becoming “very frustrated” that no solid offer has been put on the table yet from the Hoops.
Ronny Deila previously said that they would only offer the striker a contract after he proved his fitness; but that is looking less and less likely, even more so that now Sunderland are apparently in for the striker.
After picking up an injury in training, the Celtic manager said to BTSport:
We have to see what injury it is and how long he is going to be out. We don’t think it is a big one. He will still train with us and we will see what is happening.
But we are still talking. The last game he played was at the end of May so whatever happens it is not a short-term thing, like he will be going in and be fantastic for Celtic at once.
Sam Allardyce managed Cole at West Ham and has taken over at Sunderland, who are struggling this season in the Premier League. The Black Cats have just three points from their opening eight games and sacked former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat as a result.
The target man Cole could be someone that Allardyce thinks will help Sunderland stay up this season.
