Celtic are set to battle three others clubs for the signature of the former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor.
The 30-year-old centre-back has spent his entire career at the Toon side apart from a month-long loan spell to Wycombe Wanderers in December 2003.
A number of long-term injuries have plagued his career in recent years and has resulted in him making just 34 appearances in the last three seasons.
According to the Daily Express, Celtic are set to battle newly promoted Premier League sides Hull and Brighton as well as Rangers for the Englishman’s signature.
Speaking about his inevitable departure from Newcastle, he said:
It’ll be a huge wrench to leave Newcastle but I’ve been offered exciting opportunities both in the UK and abroad and I’m really looking forward to my next challenge.
The report also cites that Brendan Rodgers has made a centre-half his top priority this summer as he looks to shore up the Hoops defence.
Taylor has made 267 appearances for the former Premier League side since Sir Bobby Robson handed him his debut in 2004.
Three strikers are already set to leave the club this summer, with more players expected to depart this summer as Rodgers undergoes a squad overhaul and begins building a side capable of reaching the Champions League.
