Kundai Benyu drops hint at permanent Parkhead exit – should Celtic look to keep him?

Kundai Benyu has hinted at a possible move away from Celtic in the future following his successful loan stint so far with Swedish outfit Helsingborgs, but should the Hoops look to keep him following Parkhead legend Henrik Larsson’s latest comments about the midfielder?

Benyu was singed by former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers but looked out of his depth in his four appearances for the Hoops, and was loaned to Helsingborgs in February, until the January transfer window in 2020.

The central-midfielder has impressed in his eight appearances for the Swedish outfit thus far, scoring once and also creating one assist.

And the 21-year-old has revealed he would be open to a permanent stay with Helsingborgs, the Celtic Star reports via Swedish outlet Expressen.

I haven’t heard anything or had any conversations about (my future) yet, but we’ll take it when it comes. Had the contract expired now and you had asked me today, I would have definitely considered staying. I feel good here, develop as a player and feel like part of the team,

Celtic legend Larsson has also praised Benyu following his performances for the Swedish side, and was impressed by the way he took his first goal for Helsingborgs.

He was very, very good and showed why he is a Celtic player. He’s had some problems with fitness, but his movement and finish was superb. He’s confident on the ball and helps us out both in attack and defence so we are delighted that we’ve got him. I expect him to kick on from his first start and first goal.

So should Celtic look to keep him following Larsson’s latest comments?

While he may be impressing in Sweden, it appears Benyu would need to up his game significantly if he is to force his way into Neil Lennon’s permanent plans – especially considering Celtic’s current form.

Scott Brown and Callum McGregor have formed a fine partnership alongside each other in midfield, while Ryan Christie and Olivier Ntcham have both enjoyed fine respective starts to the season.

Should Benyu kick-on and continue impressing Larsson for Helsingborgs, however, the Zimbabwe international could return to Parkhead in January with a point to prove.
