Former Celtic player Frank McAvennie claims that has been told by his sources that his former club could be in for Leeds left-back Barry Douglas, as reported in Football Insider.

Neil Lennon could revive his interest in Douglas after initial reports of a possible transfer earlier this window.

The Hoops manager is very much in the market for a left-sided defensive option who would fit into the system at Parkhead and has, so far, failed to land Charlton player Alfie Doughty.

Now, if McAvennie is correct, Lennon could switch his attention to 31-year-old Douglas, who like Doughty, is into the final months of his contract.

McAvennie told Football Insider:

I’ve been told by sources about the boy at Leeds, Barry Douglas.

The former Scotland international went on to say:

This boy Douglas is supposed to be good, so why not? I do not know what the transfer fee would be but with one year left on his contract, I am sure they could negotiate something. He is not playing so Leeds might want somebody paying his wages.

The Scotsman has only made one appearance this term, during Leeds’ Carabao Cup exit to Hull City, leading to the belief that he could be looking to leave the club in the not so distant future.

Celtic’s need for a left-back was heightened recently when ashamed Boli Bolignoli left the club for Istanbul Basaksehir on loan.
