Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila has been in the news recently, as he has taken over as manager at Belgian side Standard Liege, following a successful spell at New York City FC, where he led the side to the MLS Cup.
It seems a long time ago from the two years the Norwegian had in charge of Celtic, from 2014 to 2016. Those two seasons were very interesting, as it was a successful yet difficult time for the Hoops, as the team had success for the most part domestically, but also struggled at times, especially in the manager’s second season, and it was no real surprise that Deila left the Hoops at the end of season 2015-16.
There were some good times though, and the Hoops did play some excellent football in Deila’s first season in charge, which saw the team not only win a league and League Cup double but reach the last 32 of the Europa League. That was progress, and sadly it wasn’t matched in the second season.
