So, Keith Jackson is delighted today that the “stunning world exclusive” that he released to the whole wide world last February has finally come to pass.

And in doing so, Jackson feels he has vindicated himself from his most farcical moment ever as a journalist.

Yes, that famous “billionaire with wealth off the radar” story which has left him wide open for ridicule since 2010, you know the one?

Jackson has never really been taken seriously as a journalist since he released that story all those years ago.

Ever since then, he has always been looking for an “out”.

A shot at redemption, as it were.

Today, he believes that redemption has finally landed on his lap in the form of confirmation of the US takeover of the Ibrox side.

In his Monday morning article, Jackson believes that the banter years are finally over.

And in conjunction with them ending, he has been vindicated and released from the clutches of his major gaffe back in 2010.

Because he was the one who gave us the “world exclusive”.

And now, it has come to pass.

The Celtic bloggers will never let Jackson forget that story from 2010.

It has haunted him at every turn since then.

But he genuinely believes his release of the story about the San Francisco 49gers takeover has vindicated him.

Have a look at the opening paragraph in today’s story from him:

There once was a man from Motherwell whose wealth was off the radar … stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before.

Because the unmitigated catastrophe which was unleashed upon Rangers from the moment Craig Whyte’s pointy, plastic shoes first stepped over the threshold has now come to a conclusion.

Friday’s confirmation of Andrew Cavenagh’s US led takeover has allowed the Ibrox club to emerge from the rubble which Whyte left behind back in 2011 when he tossed a pound coin across Sir David Murray’s desk and set in motion a chain of events which would have near apocalyptic consequences.

Blowtorch and neck comes to mind.

But here’s the thing.

When Jackson released that story on Craig Whyte all those years ago, he genuinely believed that he was releasing the story that would change the Rangers 1872’s fortunes forever.

He never did any real journalistic profiling of Craig Whyte.

It didn’t take much digging by the Celtic bloggers at that time to discover that Whyte was a spoofer.

And that he was the furthest thing from a self made billionaire.

The Celtic bloggers revealed very quickly what direction Whyte’s acquisition of the club was headed.

Everybody chose to ignore it at the time.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Jackson today believes, just as he did back then with Whyte, that the US backed consortium are the Ibrox side’s saviours.

He is not a believer of the saying, once bitten, twice shy.

He is not asking the kinds of questions we are asking already.

As there is an almost “ignore it and it’ll go away” attitude to asking any hard questions when it comes to this takeover.

Yes, today we’re led to believe the takeover is complete.

But 14 years ago, everybody was led to believe that Craig Whyte’s revolutionary takeover was complete.

And that only a bright future lay ahead for Rangers 1872 back then.

Now, I’m not saying the Americans are going to do anything like what Whyte did to the old club.

In fact the complete opposite.

These guys have their heads screwed on.

In fact, they might just be the first group of people to walk into Ibrox since 1986 who actually want to run the current entity as a sustainable business.

How they go about doing that remains to be seen.

But one thing is for sure, they are not going to throw money into a black hole for “the love of the club”.

Nor are they going to be very transparent in what they do either.

They have signaled that already with their intent to take the club private.

So, while Jackson is full of self-congratulatory guff this morning on a “world exclusive” well done, he is not asking any hard questions when it comes to the “new regime”.

Just as he asked no hard questions when it came to “the billionaire with wealth off the radar”.

And that might just backfire on him down the line.

Just as it did all those years ago.

A couple of years from now, the version he sees of the Ibrox side could be virtually unrecgnisable.

As for us, the Celtic bloggers?

We will just sit, as we always do, and watch events unfold across the city.

We will question them, just as we always do.

And we will tell the truth, like we always do.

Truths that neither Jackson, nor the Ibrox fans will want to hear.

Which begs the question?
