Celtic’s late transfer business has moved significantly closer to delivering two new arrivals, with Oliver Sørensen and Joël van den Berg now reported to have arrived in Glasgow.
The midfield pair were pictured at Glasgow Airport on Monday evening, providing the clearest indication yet that Celtic are on the brink of completing a potentially important double deal.
After weeks of frustration, this is finally tangible movement.
Celtic double transfer takes major step forward
Sørensen, 24, is expected to join Celtic from Serie A side Parma on a season-long loan, with the club reportedly securing an option to make the move permanent.
The Danish midfielder offers something Martin O’Neill badly needs: energy, athleticism and experience.
Sørensen made more than 100 appearances for FC Midtjylland before moving to Parma last summer. He has since gained valuable experience in Serie A and appears capable of operating across several midfield roles.
Van den Berg represents a very different type of signing.
The 19-year-old PSV Eindhoven midfielder is one of Dutch football’s highly-rated young prospects and has captained the Netherlands at youth level.
Reports have put the Celtic agreement at around £3m to £3.5m, with Van den Berg expected to sign a long-term contract.
Celtic finally moving — but work remains
Getting both players through the door would represent genuine progress.
Celtic have already lost Arne Engels and Paulo Bernardo from their midfield options, while uncertainty continues over Reo Hatate’s future.
That left O’Neill requiring numbers, but more importantly, quality.
Sørensen potentially provides the immediate first-team experience. Van den Berg offers youth, physical presence and considerable development potential.
Their appearance in Glasgow therefore feels significant.
Nothing should be regarded as complete until contracts are signed and Celtic officially announce the players. However, two prospective signings physically arriving in the city is considerably more substantial than another transfer rumour.
For a support desperate to see meaningful business completed, this is finally something they can see happening.
Now Celtic must finish the job — and keep going.
