Yesterday, the papers were all over the Man City story, and how if they fail their appeal after being found guilty of 113 out 115 charges, they should suffer a fate similar to that of Rangers 1872.
Everybody is ranting on about the fact that Rangers 1872 set the benchmark, as if they were some paragon of virtue in all of this.
We all know the SFA didn’t go far enough with Rangers 1872.
And we all know that their handling of the whole case was farcical.
The fact that the current club was bequeathed the trophies of the dead club still rankles with Celtic fans.
They got to keep their history, despite the fact the old club was liquidated, and the current entity is a new club.
We’ve raked over these coals many times before, I’m not about to do it all again.
But one thing I will say is that Rangers 1872 are NOT the benchmark when it comes to how clubs should be punished for cheating on an industrial scale
In addition to that, you can be damn sure the English FA won’t be looking to the SFA for guidance on how to handle industrial cheating.
You know why?
Because they would be abhorred by the way the SFA handled what Rangers 1872 did.
If the English FA punish Manchester City, I can guarantee you it will be done the right way.
Every trophy that they won illegitimately will be stripped from them, and handed to the team that lost out to them as a result of that cheating.
Manchester United and Liverpool are not just going to stand idly by and allow them to keep their ill-gotten gains.
Unlike Celtic’s cowardly board.
Who stood by and allowed the current entity to inherit the trophies the dead club cheated their way to.
You can be sure Liverpool and Manchester United will have the balls to go after what they believe rightly belongs to them.
What happens if they’re successful?

It’s correct that in Scotland the ‘Title Stripping’ ship has sailed. There was little chance of appropriate, fair justice being meted out to the 1872 version of the Govan club by the Establishment in Scotland; and, now, of course, there is absolutely no chance. Breadalbane in the Perthshire league mistakenly fielded 2 players who were still registered to their previous club for 4 consecutive matches and were docked 3pts per offence per game 24pts in total.
Using the same rule book Ranjurs 1872 should have been docked docked 33pts minimum per game throughout the cheating years and therefore all trophies stripped during that period.
