Celtic make approach to sign Tottenham winger Jack Clarke

Celtic have made a move to sign Tottenham winger Jack Clarke, according to Football Insider.

The Scottish champions have learned that Spurs will allow the 19-year old to leave this month, and now the Hoops hope to beat a number of English sides to the starlet’s signature.

Clarke spent the first half of the season with Leeds United in the Championship, returning to Elland Road on loan after signing for Spurs from the Whites in the summer for around £10million (BBC Sport).

Having only made three appearances in all competitions for Marcelo Bielsa’s side however (WhoScored), Jose Mourinho made the decision to bring him back to London in late December.

Football Insider report that Tottenham want to loan out Clarke again this month, and Celtic have made an approach in a bid to jump to the front of the queue.

Celtic will face competition from several Championship clubs however, with Football Insider reporting earlier this week that QPR, Derby County and Millwall are all leading the chase to sign Clarke on a short-term basis, while Swansea, Fulham, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest are all also keen.

Should the Hoops sign Jack Clarke, the club would certainly increase their squad depth from width, with Football Insider reporting that Lewis Morgan is on the verge of joining Inter Miami, while Scott Sinclair signed for Preston earlier this week.

Previously described as being a player who makes the difference “every time he plays” by Leeds boss Bielsa (HITC), Clarke possesses bags of potential to be star in the Scottish Premiership.

Clarke can play on either wing or as a striker if required (talkSPORT), and this versatility could see him become an important player for Neil Lennon for the remainder of the season, as the Bhoys look to increase their strange-hold on the league by winning another league title.
