Paul Robinson urges Celtic to leverage situation for Lee Buchanan

Celtic have been urged to leverage Derby County’s administration woes to their advantage in thye pursuit of England under-21 international Lee Buchanan.

It has been recently reported by multiple sources that Celtic have sent scouts to keep tabs on the young left-back ahead of a potential move with Ange Postecoglou looking to shore up the left side of his defence.

The Bhoys already boast the likes of Greg Taylor, Liam Scales and Boli Bolingoli in the first team, but the Rams’ youngster could yet be targeted.

Speaking to Football Insider, former England, Spurs and Burnley shot-stopper Paul Robinson feels that a lack of liquid assets at Derby means that Buchanan is one of the few young prospects that could be sold for a meaningful sum – but one that rep-resents good value for Celtic.

Robinson claimed:

“There aren’t a lot of assets at Derby when you look at that club.”

“The players that are there, the contracts that they’re on and the ages that they’re at, it’s not too promising.

“Whoever ends up buying that club is not going to have a lot of top assets to trade with. Celtic can use that to their advantage.

“If the administrators look to move some players on, he is certainly one of them who will command a decent transfer fee.”

Buchanan has played in all-but two games of the Rams’ season and has made himself a mainstay under the auspices of Wayne Rooney.

In that view, he is clearly a trusted option and could yet come into his own as a senior defender.

It is hard to see how he muscles in with existing options however, and a few younger or more peripheral assets may be best-placed being loaned out first.
