Martin O’Neill is reduced to begging the Celtic board for the recruits he needs – I’d swear we’ve seen this car crash somewhere before??

Back towards the end of October, many Celtic fans were happy to blame Brendan Rodgers for the malaise that had settled over Celtic.

In the aftermath of the 3-1 loss to Hearts at Tynecastle, Dermot Desmond’s character assassination followed swiftly.

And still, there were Celtic fans out there who were content to accept that all of the fault lay at Rodgers’ door.

He was the cause of all Celtic’s woes.

How gullible some people can be.

After a bitter and spiteful Dermot Desmond’s attempt to completely trash his reputation, people expected that Brendan Rodgers would come out fighting at some point.

I – for one – thought we would hear his side of the story.

But here’s the thing, Brendan Rodgers didn’t need to open his mouth.

Because he saw the carnage that was coming, and for trying to tell the truth to Dermot Desmond, he was rewarded with a spectacular rant from Celtic’s principal shareholder.

Who was determined, in his own spiteful way, to try and ensure Rodgers never got a job in football management again.

Needless to say, he failed miserably in that endeavour.

Unfortunately for Desmond, most sane people outside the Celtic boardroom bubble see this shitshow for what it is.

This is why Brendan Rodgers didn’t need to open his mouth.

He just knew it would all unravel in the aftermath of his departure.

Somehow, I doubt even he imagined it would unravel as spectacularly as it has.

From the Nancy debacle to the Paul Tisdale fiasco, I’m sure Rodgers saw it all coming.

I’m sure he feels vindicated now.

I mean, why wouldn’t he?

Since joining Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League, his side have recorded seven straight victories, taking them up to 4th place in the League table.

They are only 6 points off top side Al-Hilal, who they play tomorrow.

If Rodgers wins that one, his side will move to within three points of the summit.

Clearly Rodgers is much happier, and he’s found his mojo again.

Dark and dreary Glasgow must seem like a million miles away right now?

I’m also sure the blow of leaving Celtic is somewhat softened by his tax-free earnings of £300k per week, or £15,600,000 per year.

But it would be foolish to think that he doesn’t keep an eye on what’s unfolding at Celtic right now.

If only to soothe his ego and prove to himself he was right all along.

I also have no doubt that Brendan Rodgers has the utmost respect for Martin O’Neill.

And that he it most likely disgusted at the treatment being meted out to a Celtic legend during this shambles of a transfer window.

Because he’s seen all of this before.

We’ve all seen it before.

Its like a deja-vu that comes back to haunt us every time the transfer window opens.

But I’d imagine even Brendan Rodgers is in disbelief that they’d do the same thing to Martin O’Neill as they did to him.

Especially since O’Neill agreed to come back to try and salvage something from this utter calamity of a season.

Today in the Record, we’re being told that he has sent out an SOS to the Celtic board.

Can somebody explain to me why the manager of a side crying out for reinforcements needs to send out an SOS?

You’ve got to admire the mastery of it, though, don’t you?

I mean if there’s one thing the Celtic board are masters at, its this.

Reducing even legends like Martin O’Neill to begging for players, not to mind Brendan Rodgers before him.

This is farcical.

Its farcical that we’re reading this in the media again, when on August the 11th of last year, we read that Brendan Rodgers was sending an SOS to the board as well.

It isn’t hard hard to picture a Celtic manager at a morse code machine, sending SOS’s to the boardroom, is it?

But things are so archaic at Celtic, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was actually the method of communication they used!

I’ve always noticed the old Bat-phone located beside where Peter Lawwell used to sit in the corporate box.

It looks like its been there since the main stand was built back in the seventies.

I digress.

But this is what I’m reduced to, I suppose.

Waffling about morse code and phones in the corporate box.

When I should instead be talking about all of the incoming players arriving at Celtic to help us land this title.

As I said last night on the podcast, we are now on day 28 of the transfer, and we have yet to spend one single penny.

It is utterly shameful behaviour.

And it is disgraceful treatment of Martin O’Neill too.

He has spelt it out for them today.

O’Neill has made it clear that his players are now running on fumes.

As if that wasn’t blindingly obvious, considering what they’ve had to go through in the last two fixtures.

But here’s the thing.

Martin O’Neill will somehow get every one of them up for tomorrow night’s game against Utrecht.

And he will probably pull a result out of the bag.

This man is doing his job, and then some.

Meanwhile, the non-entities in the board room fart around and dawdle in the transfer window.

All of O’Neill’s language in the media today is almost a mirror image of the language Brendan Rodgers used last August.

It doesn’t fill me with hope.

I doubt it fills anyone with hope, least of all Martin O’Neill.

But if this window closes and it all goes to shit because we have a squad running on fumes?

Who are the happy clappers and board apologists going to blame this time?

Because both Brendan Rodgers and Martin O’Neill have spelt it out in crystal clear language.

It isn’t their fault that the incompetents in the boardroom don’t get it.

What an absolute joke of a situation this is.

But hey.

At about 9pm on Monday evening, twats like Lawrence Donegan will be calling us bedwetters and telling us that there’s still two hours left in the transfer window.

Two fucking hours??

Nicholson has had 365 days to get this shitshow sorted.

What in the name of sweet Jesus could he possibly achieve in the last two hours of this transfer window??
