Hendry always believed he would play for Scotland

Jack Hendry has said that he always had faith in himself to play for his national side, as per BBC Sport.

Hendry got his first cap for Scotland in Hungary as Alex McLeish’s men got a 1-0 away victory in the manager’s first win back managing his home nation.

Hendry, who transferred to Celtic from Dundee in the January transfer window, was very pleased with the team and his own personal performance.

He was part of a centre-back pairing with Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna, and he believes that McLeish will see the two of them as a good partnership for the Scotland squad in the future.

Hendry said after the Hungary victory:

Me and Scott are constantly learning and trying to improve all the time. When we get opportunities we’ve got to take them. Scott’s done well and I feel I did well tonight, so when you get those opportunities, and it’s a real honour to represent your country, you’ve got to grasp it with both hands. We’ve showed that we can play at this level. It was a good result and a very proud moment for myself and my family. A special moment but it was more important that we got the win. I’ve always backed my own ability.
