Celtic have been linked with a move for Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist in recent months.
The Hoops reportedly watched the 28-year-old back in October, with stories last month claiming the Swiss shot-stopper is on the club’s January wishlist.
Neil Lennon has revealed that the club are not in the market for a new goalkeeper this month.
However, an update from Swiss outlet Blick, cited by Sports Witness, has claimed that ‘it’s no longer a secret’ that Celtic ‘have been watching’ Siegrist for some time.
It seems as if the Dundee United star is still on the club’s radar, but we think that the Hoops need to put the brakes on any deal for the player.
First of all, Lennon appears to be happy with his three senior goalkeepers, Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard.
Hazard is thought to be closing in on a Parkhead deal, and having three first-team shot-stoppers is more than enough at this moment in time.
Barkas is less than 12 months into his four-year deal and Bain still has two-and-a-half years left on his Parkhead contract.
We feel that at least one of the three would have to leave to make way for Siegrist, which doesn’t look likely at this stage.
The funds it would also require to sign Siegrist would, in our view, be better off strengthening other areas, with an experienced centre-back and a winger high on Lennon’s New Year wishlist.
