Haissem Hassan has signed for Celtic, and this feels like exactly the type of transfer the club should be making.
The Egyptian international winger arrives from Real Oviedo on a four-year contract. Celtic also hold an option for another year.
At 23, Hassan comes to Glasgow at an excellent age. He has already gained experience in France and Spain, yet there should still be plenty of development ahead.
That combination makes this signing particularly exciting.
Haissem Hassan gives Celtic something different
Celtic need players who can improve the team now while still having the potential to become considerably better.
Haissem Hassan appears to fit that profile.
He is quick, direct and comfortable taking defenders on. Those qualities should bring another dimension to Celtic’s attacking options.
There is also something exciting about signing a player who still has plenty to prove.
Nobody should expect Hassan to arrive as the finished article. That is not the point.
Celtic have enjoyed enormous success by identifying talented players before they reach their peak. Developing them at Parkhead should remain a major part of the recruitment strategy.
Hassan now has the opportunity to follow that path.

Now comes the fascinating part: seeing how he adapts to Scottish football and the demands of playing for Celtic.
European football should provide another major stage for him. If Hassan settles quickly, he could become an important attacking weapon.
There are never guarantees with a new signing. Still, the profile makes sense.
Young, ambitious, technically gifted and with room to develop — this is the market Celtic should be exploring.

Highlights are exactly that, but having watched a bit of footage of Hassan, I’m convinced he’ll be an absolute handful for defenders. Willingness to take a man on, even when another opposition player is supporting the full back, a swift turn of pace over the first few yards, creating space to get the head up and play the meaningful pass or get a shot away. It looks like he can do it all, even in tight spaces. Excited about seeing this lad tearing it up. Hope he learns the language and settles in quickly. A solid signing.
