Although he is still a Hoops player, Celtic defender Darnell Fisher will not be rooting for his parent club while at St Johnstone.
The 21-year-old left Celtic to join the Saints on a season-long loan the weekend before the two teams faced-off at Celtic Park.
Fisher was unable to play against the Hoops, but that didn’t stop the Englishman from picking sides, as The Courier reported.
I saw a few people I know at Celtic Park, but I found it easy to back St Johnstone. I had pulled on the jersey and trained with the lads. So you want the team to do well.
I am a St Johnstone player. I won’t be going to watch Celtic if we don’t have a game.
Fisher made 21 appearances for Celtic in the last two season’s, but he and manager Ronny Deila felt it was better he got regular first team football to aid his development.
But I need to be playing football. There’s no point training all week and watching games from the stand on a Saturday.
The manager (Ronny Deila) at Celtic just told me to go and play and get more experience under my belt.
Saints manager Tommy Wright had tried to sign the Hoops youngster on several occasions and it seems Celtic’s summer signings that included four defenders paved the way for Fisher’s season-long loan.
Fisher will be hoping to make an impact in what could be his debut this weekend against Hamilton on Saturday following the international break.
