Genoa move ahead of Celtic in Klimala pursuit

Italian outfit Genoa have moved ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Jagiellonia Bialystok striker Patryk Klimala, according to the Daily Record.

Polish outlet Przeglad Sportowy reported yesterday that Celtic had come in for the 21-year old, and a potential transfer in the coming days couldn’t be ruled out.

The Poland Under-20s international could be available for around £3.4million via a release clause in his contract, according to the Record, who claim that Neil Lennon has set his sights on the forward,

However Genoa have now pushed ahead of the Hoops, with the Serie A club now entering the final details of negotiations to land the forward.

That is according to Corriere dello Sport, as cited by the Record, who claim that the Grifone could lock down a deal in the coming days.

It has been reported (Sky Sports) that Neil Lennon is prioritising a new striker this month, and at just over £3million Klimala would represent a fairly cheap option to support Odsonne Edouard.

Rangers can go top of the Premiership table if they win their game in hand, and Celtic will know that strengthening their attacking options could help them stave off the Gers for the second half of the season.

If Genoa are indeed interested in Klimala, Celtic will need to move quickly to sign the Pole if the Record’s report is to be believed, especially if the side still harbour hope of winning their ninth title in a row.
